Dad is doing well!!! He still has a lot of recovery to do, rebuildIng his muscle strength Is huge and will help his overall recover. For example, you need muscles to breath and push your diaphragm in and out. Since has had that fine for him for so long with the ventilator his muscular balance needs to be repaired and will take time.
For the past week dad has been Slowly increasing his time in the trach collar. One day it was 5 hrs, the Next was 6, then 7..... Yesterday dad was on the Trach collar for 22 HOURS! Still, with the assisted oxygen level of 40%, but breathing on his own.
Dad will meet and be evaluated with a speech pathologist to determine if he is fit for a speech apparatus to be added to the Trach so he can talk. At this point they are protecting his lower body and air isn’t allowed up to his vocal cords to speak. He is in the right path and getting closer and closer to speak!!!
Dads physical therapist has stayed they are noticing improvementS in his muscular tone as they work with him. Time is the best medicine so far. All levels are good and stable!
Sorry for the delay. Work has been busy with the riots.
Till next time...
